Event Information

The Corrections Foundation is proud to host the Florida Department of Corrections Inaugural K-9 Detection and Contraband Interdiction Seminar in the greater Orlando area at the Radisson Resort Orlando-Celebration.

It will consist of three components: lectures, demonstrations, and practical exercises:

  • Designed for K-9 handlers and managers
  • Cell phone detection demonstrations
  • Tracking team instruction
  • Practical exercises in correctional, open-area, and building settings
  • Problem-solving scenarios
  • Certification available through the National Narcotics Detection Dog Association
  • Vendors with law enforcement, correctional, and K-9 products

There will be multiple scenarios and practical exercises. Most of the practical exercises will be located at nearby Demilley Correctional Institution (click here for map and directions). There will be many scenarios at the same facility so you will be able to work your K-9 many times without a lot of stand-down time.

Scenarios will also be practiced at the property adjacent to the hotel. Below is a map of the area:

The scenarios will consist of warehouse searches, open bay searches, office area searches, confinement area searches, vehicle searches, outside building searches, and outdoor recreational yard searches.

There will be awards for the Top Dog, First, Second and Third Place.

K-9 AwardsInstructors’ Experience

The instructors have 80 years of combined experience in K-9 drug detection and contraband interdiction.

They are winners of the 2013 USPCA Southeastern Regional Trials Championship and the 2013 USPCA National Trials Team Championship.
