FARM WORKER HOUSING INITATIVE

The Department of Corrections' vocational education program plays a significant role in the Governor's plan for affordable housing for migrant farm workers in Florida. Working through qualified non-profit farmworker housing development organizations, housing components are built inside the prison compound. Through the vocational carpentry/cabinetmaking course at Hardee CI, offenders learn and practice marketable job skills and at the same time help to alleviate a serious housing shortage for migrant farm workers.

The Corrections Foundation works with non-profit housing developers and vocational instructors for production of items such as kitchen cabinets, furnishings, beds, kitchen and bathroom sink bases and picnic tables.

Non-profit Housing Developers who are interested in partnering with the Corrections Foundation and DC vocational program to build affordable (far below retail) housing components for Farm Worker Housing projects may contact Sheri Logue at the Corrections Foundation, (850) 410-4475 for more details.

Words can’t adequately describe how you’ve touched our lives. With a negative experience we learned a very positive, valuable lesson in understanding what the Foundation really stands for. We wish we could share that newfound knowledge with everyone we meet.

Your demonstration of support was unexpected and overwhelming. Every individual who is part of the Corrections Foundation should be very proud of their involvement. From the bottom of our hearts, we thank each of you.
