Memorial Bricks for Fallen CO Sgt. Ruben Thomas Memorial at Columbia CI
On Monday we dedicated the memorial park in honor of Sgt. Ruben Thomas who lost his life on March 18, 2012 while serving the citizens of the State of Florida. This was a tragic day for the Department and has been a very difficult year for all the staff at Columbia CI. Monday marked the first anniversary of this painful event.
Through your support and donations we were able to provide a suitable monument that will eternally commemorate Sgt. Thomas and his sacrifice. Whether it was through the purchase of commemorative bricks, support of the golf tournament or other donations, you made this memorial park a reality. It is in times like these that the phrase “DOC family” is not just an idea for our Department, it is a reality. It would be impossible for me to personally thank everyone that has assisted us with this undertaking, so on behalf of all the staff at Columbia CI and the family of Sgt. Thomas.
I would like to just take this opportunity to thank everyone that was part of this worthwhile project.
Purchase a brick to help construct the memorial to be built in honor of fallen CO Sgt. Ruben Thomas at Columbia CI.
It will cost approximately $8,000 to build the memorial, a sketch of which is at the bottom of this page. To help finance the construction we are selling, for a minimum donation of $35 bricks for a minimum donation which can be engraved with your name and a message – a total of three lines with 13 characters each for a total of 39 characters including spaces.
Columbia CI’s goal is to have the funds in-hand and have the construction completed by March 18, 2013 – the one-year anniversary of Sgt. Thomas’ death.
Each brick is a 6″ x 9″ charcoal-colored paver stone and will be placed at the Columbia Correctional Institution’s Memorial Park at at 216 SE Corrections Way, Lake City, FL.
