Florida Legislature Passes Specialty Tag Recognizing, Supporting DC Officers and StaffThe Florida Legislature has approved a specialty license plate that promoting the role of DC officers and staff in the eyes of the public while raising additional funds to support our employees through the Corrections Foundation.Florida Legislature Passes Specialty Tag Recognizing, Supporting DC Officers and Staff "DC staff protect Floridians in all communities from felons, yet are rarely recognized for the role the officers and staff play in pubic safety. The legislature in passing this plate has started to recognize that DC employees are just as important as police officers, firefighters and other first responders," said Louie Wainwright, President of the Corrections Foundation and Secretary from 1962 to 1986. "You ought to be proud of what you do, the level of professionalism you've achieved, and the public trust you hold in protecting Florida's families, despite any recent issues." The tag is now on its way to Governor Crist for his signature. The cabinet also must approve the design. Once these last small steps are taken, the tag will be available in Tax Collectors' officers beginning in either December 2007 or January 2008. The Corrections Foundation has provided over $1.9 million to over 1,700 employees since 1999. Proceeds from the specialty license plate will go to expand the Employee Assistance Program, a disaster relief trust fund, a scholarship for the children or dependents of employees killed or injurred in the line of duty, and other programs that benefit employees. |
