Gov. Scott Recognizes Two COs for Rescuing a Car Crash Victim
From Gov. Scott’s message to state employees:
And finally, I would like to mention Department of Corrections Officers Matthew Delong and Robert Carroll for their actions of assisting a civilian in need last month.
Both officers were returning to Tomoka Correctional Institution in Volusia from a trip to the Reception and Medical Center in Lake Butler when the vehicle in front of them went out of control, rolled into a ditch and flipped over three times. Officers Delong and Carroll stopped to assess the situation. The vehicle was upside down in a ditch of water with the smell of gasoline fumes coming from the vehicle.
Seeing that the driver was trapped, they pried open the door and helped the driver exit the vehicle.
Thank you, Matthew and Robert, for your commitment to the safety of all Floridians.
