October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month

The month of October recognizes both Domestic Violence Awareness Month and Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout the month, we will participate in activities that support both of these initiatives.

On October 4, 2012, employees are encouraged to wear purple in support of Domestic Violence Awareness Month and to participate in Casual Jeans Day, to support Wakulla CI Officer Tasheka Paden who is still recovering from life-threatening injuries sustained during a domestic violence assault. For a $5.00 donation, non-uniformed employees are authorized to dress casual (jeans) on Thursday, October 4th. All proceeds collected will go to assist Officer Paden’s recovery. To participate, please contact your Warden, Circuit Administrator or Office Coordinator.  Please make all checks and money orders payable to FCCD Chapter II, and indicate on your check that it is for Tasheka Paden.  For additional information, please contact Cindy Phelps at 850. 717.3956.

On Monday, October 22, 2012, we encourage all Department employees to wear pink to support Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Throughout the month, the Department will post messages and facts on our Facebook page and Twitter in support of these initiatives.

Offices are encouraged to take pictures of participants.

If you are a breast cancer or domestic violence survivor, we would love to support you. If you would like to send us a picture, we would like to post it on social media to inspire others.

If you have questions, please contact Misty Cash at 850. 717.3039 or cash.misty@mail.dc.state.fl.us.
