Change in Minimum Donation to the Corrections Foundation
Beginning with payroll warrants dated March 16, 2018, minimum contributions for the Corrections Foundation will change from $1 to $2 per pay period, the first such change in 14 years. If you are already a $2 or higher contributor you will not see a change in your deduction, only the minimum contribution level is impacted by this change.
Membership allows the Corrections Foundation to assist Florida Dept. of Corrections officers and employees during the worst times of their lives, including critical health, accidents, house fires and emergencies. In the past disaster relief for FDC staff has also pulled from these membership resources.
Our small disaster relief fund that we keep for natural disasters has been almost depleted with Hurricane Matthew in 2016, various tornadoes, and Hurricane Irma in 2017. The fund provided 551 employees with $299,000 in their time of need. Due to our desire to be there for FDC employees during future unforeseen disasters we are changing our minimum contribution from $1 to $2 per pay period, effective March 16, 2018.
Your donation will still – as it has in the past – provide financial assistance to FDC officers and staff in times of accident, critical illness, injuries, and other unforeseen accidents. In addition, a portion will go to the dedicated disaster relief fund which benefits FDC officers and staff during large scale natural disasters like hurricanes.
Since 1999, the Corrections Foundation has provided over $7.3 million to over 6,834 FDC officers and staff.
If you do not want your contribution to change, you may opt-out of membership by going to https://www.correctionsfoundation.org/membership-cancellati….
Your membership will be cancelled and you will no longer be eligible for full financial assistance through the Employee Assistance Program.
If you want to allow your donation to change and remain a member to provide assistance for your co-workers, you do not have to do anything. The increase will be automatic on March 16, 2018, and you will continue being eligible for full financial assistance in times of emergency.
We hope you will not only continue your membership and allow us to continue providing for FDC officers and staff in times of need but also encourage your peers to become a member of this valuable Foundation.
Thank you for your support.
